{ HAWTHORNE THREADS CALLIOPE BLOG HOP }

jeudi 13 novembre 2014

I am so glad to be part of  the launch of Hawthorne Threads new collection: Calliope.

It is no secret to my followers that Hawthorne Threads is one of my favorite online shops.
I found it online by chance 2 years ago and fell in love with its range of fabric and customer service at once.
This november they released 2 home-printed collections: Calliope and Bengal.
Calliope is the perfect fall collections for girls or women who have kept their girl's souls!
The colors are soft corals , beautiful pinks and indigo.

I am in love with the feathers designs and the graphic hearts.
But most of all with the "Three muses in bluebell" print: my girl loves the ginger haired muse and we used her face as the focal point of the project I made for this blog tour.

So I decided to make a bag for her out of this fabric, a "signature style " of hers, that she can carry around with her at all times!

I mixed it with some "Creative spark in tulip" for the sides of my bag and with "Rhythmic in indigo"for the zipper sides.

 I added some blue piping:

I sewed a Toddler backpack . The pattern is by Made-by-Rae and it is a great pattern.

The updated version has a tutorial for a child's size bag, like the one I made for my 8 years old.
It is an easy sew, but you have to be patient and not fear piping , which I don't!! noone should be afraid of piping!  see my tutorial to add piping to any of your projects!

It does not really show on the photos but I did add some batting to all the parts of the bag and quiltedaround the "muses" and on their hair.

I used my walking foot and it helped to sew through the different layers, especially for the shoulder straps.

The bag is fully lined with this feather print: how adorable?? It is called "Poetic plumes in white". Love that name!

And so , she does carry it around with her. She loves it and I think it is the perfect mix of colors and prints for her.

Thank you Hawthorne Threads people for trusting me with your awesome fabric!
we love this bag here in our home !

Now onto the fun stuff! you can win a fat quarter bundle of this amazing collection!
Just leave a comment here !
International welcome, of course!!

  5. Bonjour Sophie! J'adore votre sac a dos et le tissu Calliope! Je viens de Canada et j'ai etudie la langue française il y a beaucoup d'années. I love reading your bilingual blog as it allows me to practice my French language comprehension and it expands my vocabulary in the area of sewing. Glad I found you via this blog hop. Salut!

  17. Awesome backpack! Another idea for this fabulous fabric line is a kids tote (for those of use a little leary of piping!) ... like the one featured this summer in the Michael Miller kids craft camp tutorials: http://www.makingitfun.blogspot.ca/2014/08/mmf-kids-craft-camp-project-3-lined.html The bonus in making a kids tote is that it takes smaller pieces and would be the perfect project for a fat quarter give-away! :)

  31. What a sweet backpack! I love how you centered the muse on the back. I am still afraid of piping though;). This line is a definite purchase for me. Expecting baby girl #4 in April and I think she'll need some accessories from these fabrics!
