I am blessed even by reading this - how much more so if I would do the same as you! Thank you for sharing how you've grown from this - very inspirational. So glad you have such a great accountability partner:)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12042868068336882455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3097564031297039296.post-42695953858082671502015-07-20T17:58:43.734+02:002015-07-20T17:58:43.734+02:00Hi Kelley! I am not sure if you'll see this, but I just wanted to say that I also grew up with an extremely strict - fundamentalist upbringing and was extremely turned off by Christianity through a good part of my adult life as a result. In fact, when I came to read the Bible for the first time, I was doing some deep soul searching to decide if I was ready to leave Christianity, or more specifically conservative-fundamentalist Christianity. I was so tired of all of the angst that I wrestled with - it was so draining. What I learned is, to steal a quote from a mentor we have through Compassion International, conservative does not mean Biblical. So much of what I had been taught was oppressive and simply untrue. It was totally Americanized and not did not take into account historical context. By reading the Bible, with the help of a really great Hebrew scholar who Sophie linked to, I was able to see God in a whole new way and it was incredibly healing and life-giving. Now I am doing it for the fourth time and I really can't recommend it highly enough. I have been able to hold onto some of the meaningful traditions I was raised with while letting go of so much of the baggage. rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12000794959264304528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3097564031297039296.post-47999789232098731142015-07-20T17:46:19.435+02:002015-07-20T17:46:19.435+02:00I love your thoughts here, Sophie. I used to spend nearly an hour each day my first time through and I was so confused so much of the time. Working through all of that was so hard but so worth it! I'm so glad to be on the journey with you, friend! <3rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12000794959264304528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3097564031297039296.post-26258854879848872882015-07-20T05:02:02.096+02:002015-07-20T05:02:02.096+02:00This makes me want to get into a reading plan! Even now, I don't read it much now because I "know" it already, even though in my heart I know I need a refresher. Thank you for your beautiful heart and spirit!
