{ KCW contributor : first post // Art-Like fabric}

You might know that I am lucky enough to be a contributor for this season's Kid's Clothes week!

Well, my first post is up and I am very anxious:  you know: me, the french girl who  has so much to learn about sewing, writing a post for KCW! It seams unreal!

In this post, I try to inspire you with some fabrics that match this season's theme: KID ART. 
Here are some examples of what you can find in the post:

Eh bien ! mon premier post est publié et je suis très anxieuse !!

L’objectif de ce post est de vous aider à trouver de l'inspiration par rapport au thème de cette saison: DESSINS D'ENFANTS. J'ai donc appliqué ce thème aux tissus, à mes tissus adorés!

Je suis donc partie à la chasse sur internet pour vous dégotter des trésors qui, je l'espère, vous inspireront. Voici quelques exemples de ce que vous trouverez sur ce post:

 #1: How modern is this!

#2: This print is simply amazing: it looks like an actually piece of Kid Art!

#3: Small uneven dots, so lovely!

#4: This Nani Iro print was found in a french online shop : Cousette. It is the perfect combination of brown and neon pink and it is made out of a soft flannel. Just a hint: this fabric is on my cutting table right now!!

#1: The whole Far Far Away collection is a delight! Heather Ross did wonders and who could resist this princess and the pea print?? wouldn’t it be perfect on a bed spread or even on a dress?

#2 Those snails have my heart: designed by Made by Rae, this collection is perfect in terms of design and colors.  This print is great for boys garments: hats, shorts… I am inspired!

# 3 I have this print in a different colorway and am planning to sew a Caroline party dress for my own girl with it during KCW.

#4 Ed Emberley is the best illustrator for kids animal prints.

I have gone on a hunt on the internet to find some really cool prints and collections that are bound to inspire you to sew for your children!

{ I made a shirt! A Mulberry tunic for my boy }

 People!!! I made a shirt! I sewed button holes !:) even though it is a kid's shirt I am still proud of myself!!
Well, actually, my sewing machine sewed the button holes and I almost kissed it when I realize how easy it was!!:)

J'ai cousu une chemise! je n'en reviens pas! j'ai cousu des boutonnières!! enfin, ma machine les a cousues! et j'en étais tellement contente que je l'ai embrassée!!

I used the Mulberry tunic pattern by  Kid Approved for Willow&Co. 
I cut a size 4 for my 4 1/2 boy and the fit is PERFECT. 

This tunic makes me so happy!

 I love this pattern and I think it is so well written: I love the finishing touches: the topstitching and the seams inside the garments are well finished thanks to the details in the pattern:

J'ai utilisé le patron de la Mulberry Tunic par Kid Approved pour Willow&Co: un très beau patron, qui offre des détails très intéressants pour les finitions. J'aime apprendre de nouveaux trucs et astuces et ce patron m'a permis de faire de jolies finitions à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur:

I used Carolyn Friedlander's Botanics Collection bought from Hawthorne Threads a while ago.
I first bought the whole collection in 1/2 yards in order to make a quilt but it turns out I am using those prints for garments: I used them for my Knight hoodies' hoods and know for this tunic.

The prints resemble scribbles and doodling, perfect for this summer's Kids Clothes Week theme, don't you think?

J'ai utilisé des tissus de la collection Botanics de Carolyn Fieldlander achetés chez Hawthorne Threads. Les tissus rappellent des crayonnages, ils sont parfaits pour le thème de cette saison de Kids Clothes Week: KID ART!

 The boy wore it proudly to a birthday party today.

There really are 5 buttons on the front but he didn't want to button up the last one: "Boys don't wear the last button!!" So he says!!... OH BOYS!!

Il y a bien 5 boutons sur le devant mais :" Les garçons ça ne boutonnent pas le dernier!" dixit le boy! Je m'incline:)

Oh well! I was scared of shirts and now I am not!! I am ready to embrace the whole shirt thing!! give me shirt patterns!! I am ready!!

Alors voilà!! je n'aurais plus jamais peur des boutonnières! alors à moi les patrons de chemises pour enfants, hommes et femmes!!!!

{ A Zebra in my life and other news // Un sacré zèbre ...}

 This week is just one of these crazy weeks: I just don't know how I am going to get through to sunday!!
I have so much written on my calendar !!
On monday night, we came back from 3 days away ! It was gorgeous and so good to spend time together as a family in the south of France... but.. 
I have meetings at work for end of school year almost every night (did you know I work full time as a teacher??!:))
+ I am sick
+ there is end of school year party at my kid's school on friday
+ there is end of year celebration on sunday at our  horse riding club.....and ..... and .... you know?!! Yes you do know I am sure!

SO when the teacher asked me if I could make a zebra costume for my boy's part for this friday's school play!! I went "yes of course!" but my head started spinning!! when?? how??
Because you see.. I don't do costumes!!
The only costume I ever made was this donkey skin for my girl.


Pour être honnête je ne sais pas comment je vais arriver au bout de cette semaine! 
Il y a tant de rendez-vous et de "à faire " sur mon calendrier que ça me tourne la tête!
+ c'est la fin de l'année scolaire: il faut remplir les bulletins, les notes, les fiches, faire les conseils de classe...; (saviez-vous que je travaille comme prof??!)
+ j'ai une sinusite du tonnerre
+ vendredi c'est la fête de l'école de mes enfants
+ dimanche c'est la fête du club du poney...etc... etc.. Vous voyez l'ambiance??

Alors quand la maîtresse de mon boy m'a demandé vendredi dernier de faire un costume de zèbre pour la pièce dans laquelle joue mon fils vendredi: j'ai souris, dit "oui, bien sûr" pendant que mon cerveau affolé tentait de décider QUAND et COMMENT j'allais pouvoir faire un truc pareil!!

My local shop only had this fabric: a really shiny  fabric!! The bee Gees Meet the Madagascra characters sort of fabric! argh!! oh well: that'll do!!:) I didn't have time to buy online anyway!
It turned out to be a night mare to sew!!

SO!! yesterday was the only afternoon I had free to make it: I grabed my Knight hoodie pattern in size 4 and my Parsley pants pattern in size 5 !! and I did go for it!

In less that 4 hours I made these!!:) please don't look at the details : there aren't any!!:) ahah!! I did not have time for details !!:)

Pas le temps de commander du tissu zèbre sur le net: je me suis rendue dans ma boutique locale qui n'avait que ce tissu disons... en plastique zébré brillant façon "les Bee Gees rencontrent les personnages de Madagascar"!! bon! OK!!! allons-y pour ça!!
J'ai utilisé les patrons du Sweat chevalier pour le haut et du pantalon Parsley pour le bas. 

 The pants are made out of black linen and scraps of the "shiny zebra"
 I used fleece to make the hair in black and white
  and added a fleece nose and some ears!! I do love the ears!!:)

The boy is so happy and says he will be the nicest character of the play:) bless him!

My dress is almost finished! It is going to be hard not to share until the 7th of July!

J'ai la chance d'être la suivante dans la série "take this dress" créée par Victoria il y a plus d'un an sur son blog As it Seams: le principe: une couturière propose une photo de robe comme source d'inspiration à une autre couturière, qui crée une robe et en propose une autre à une troisième,etc... vous me suivez?  La photo ci-dessus est la source d'inspiration qui m'a été proposée. Ma version est presque finie et il va être difficile d'attendre jusqu'au 7 juillet pour vous la montrer!!:)

{ Altered Stepford Dress: round neckline, pockets and fold-back... }

 When I made my first Stepford dress it was love at first stitch!
I knew this dress would be made over and over again . But I also knew I wanted a different neckline for my next take on it. Because I have quite a skinny bust, round necklines suit me more.
Hence this second version with : round neckline, pockets and fold-back.

Quand j'ai cousu ma première version de la robe Stepford, je savais qu'elle aurait bien d'autres petites sœurs. Et je savais aussi que la suivante aurait une encolure ronde: 
Voici donc ma version 2 de ce patron, redessinée et transformée par mes soins: encolure arrondie, encolure du dos rabattue et poches dans la jupe.

I  did this back neckline ateration found on Gertie's blog ( this girl is amazingly skilled!) .

J'ai ajouté des rabats dans l'encolure du dos grâce à ce tutoriel:

 I chose a dotted chambray (bought from a local shop) and some of this pink Bye Bye Birdy fabric by Atelier Brunette (Cousette) for the lining and pockets. Both are so soft, they make this dress absolutly comfortable:)

J'ai choisi un chambray à pois (Mondial tissu ) et pour la doublure et les poches : ce magnifique tissu Bye Bye Birdie, d'atelier Brunette (Cousette). Tous les 2 sont d'une grande douceur: cette robe est légère et vraiment confortable. La doublure est cousue à la main sur la couture de la taille:

I added pockets made out of this fabric too (you must have pockets on a dress!)

J'ai donc ajouté des poches à la jupe: car qui peut vivre sans poches!

  

 I might be a bit jealous as it looks so good on Albertine!

Mais je crois que je suis un peu jalouse: elle va tellement bien à Albertine!!

SO that 's my new favorite dress! what do you think??

To be honest these alterations are really easy, I think you should try out alterations on your favorite patterns because really it is a great way to create the garment of your dreams, something you will never find in any shop!

Alors voilà: c'est ma toute nouvelle robe préférée!

Pour être honnête ces petites modifications de patron sont un jeu d'enfant et je ne peux que vous encourager à tenter  l'aventure. Je trouve génial d'avoir une robe qui correspond à ma morphologie et à mes goûts, une robe telle que je n'en trouverai jamais dans le commerce! Un vrai bonheur.

I am so happy and a bit scared too to have been chosen to be part of Kid's clothes week this summer along with 3 other talented ladies : Shelley from Bartacks and Singletrack, Kristi from SweetKM, and Julie from Our Chez Nous.

Mark your calendar: The actual sewing week during which you will be able to share your projects on the gallery will run from  July 21 to 27th. 

You will also have a chance to win amazing goodies thanks to giveaways!

Before that week we will be providing inspiration on this season's theme: Kid Art. But remember you don't have to follow the theme!

Je suis vraiment heureuse de partager cette belle nouvelle avec vous: j'ai été choisie pour faire partie de la nouvelle saison de Kid's clothes week: la semaine de la couture pour enfants!

Chaque saison des centaines de femmes décident de dédier une semaine à la couture pour enfants: elles postent leurs créations sur une galerie et participent à des jeux pour gagner des tissus et du matériel de couture. Sur le blog on parle couleur, patrons, bref! tout ce qu'on aime!

La semaine de couture proprement dite aura lieu du 21 au 27 juillet. Vous avez donc du temps pour choisir et préparer vos patrons, ainsi que vos tissus!  Avant et après cette semaine, mes amies contributrices et moi même essaieront de vous donner de l'inspiration et vous aiderons à vous préparer pour cette semaine de couture! 

Le thème de cette saison est : dessins d'enfants mais vous n'êtes pas obligées de suivre ce thème. Il n'y a pas non plus de nombres déterminé de cousettes! Une suffit pour participer!

{ Please welcome: Albertine !!}

 After many weeks of pondering, searching on the internet, reading opinions, thinking, hesitating, ... .
Please welcome the new addition to our family: "Albertine" !!
She is a Lady Valet I bought online from Rascol and I am pretty pleased with her!

Après plusieurs semaines d'hésitations, de recherches, et de doutes...
Veuillez enfin accueillir le nouveau membre de notre famille: Albertine... 
Un nom choisi par les enfants,  qui me rappelle mes lectures de Proust..! 
Il s'agit d'une "Lady Valet" achetée en ligne chez Rascol: grand choix de produit de couture, livraison hyper rapide. 

She has a small bust, just like, ... well.. me!!
I can adjust the size of the waist, bust and hips as well as the length of the back, which I think is pretty handy!
She looks good with her wood foot!

Elle a une petite poitrine ajustable, de même que sa taille et ses hanches. J'aime beaucoup le fait de pouvoir aussi ajuster la longueur du dos.

 

 I used her already for my new project's muslin: an altered version of the Stepford dress

La voilà portant ma toile pour une version personnalisée de la robe Stepford... bientôt finie, j'espère!!

 

Mais elle était quand même plus contente quand je lui ai mis la vraie robe Stepford, version 1, même si elle trouve que le décolleté est un peu coquin!!:)

But she was happier when I dressed her with my Stpeford dress version 1 , although she thought the neck line is pretty cheeky!

 She did not disturbe Mishka the big cat, who has taken over my studio and made his bed in this box where I keep my current projects patterns and fabrics!

Elle n'a même pas dérangé Mishka , le chat patapouf, qui avait fait son lit dans la boîte où je garde les patrons et tissus de mes projets en cours!

Sur une note plus personnelle, je ne peux m'empêcher de partager quelques photos de notre dimanche dans les montagnes: les Alpes sont si belles et je me sens si chanceuse de vivre près d'endroits aussi merveilleux. Notre périple à Briançon a donné lieu à des visions de paysages superbes, de jardins poétiques et colorés, et au retour, nous avons assisté aux jeux d'une famille de marmottes qui couraient comme des fous dans l'herbe et les cailloux aux abords d'une charmante rivière... 
On a more personal note:I feel like sharing some photos of our sunday in the mountains!! We went to Briançon, a city high in the mountains.


The french Alps are amazing and I feel so blessed to be able to see such amazing views, old stoned walls cities and groundhogs fooling around on the grass by a silver river!!
Blessed, for sure.
